PROJECT PHASES
The project began with a diagnostic that consisted of evaluating the present operation of the golf courses in the region, followed by professional training seminars to establish benchmarks and work together to develop feasible environmental practices which achieve a more efficient operation of the golf courses.
After the practices and benchmarks were established, the golf courses implement those practices most feasible to their specific conditions and ensure the proper use of these practices.
The project consists on providing the necessary assessment and technical support for the implementation of the Best Environmental Practices in each golf course, as well as the completion of a regional environmental monitoring program and constant supervision of the results achieved. These results will be widely published to provide extensive diffusion to the regional environmental benefits created by the golf courses.
Special marketing campaigns, tournaments and social events including the presence of national and regional celebrities, the junior golf tournament and the promotion of the local business collaboration will be used to advertise the project.
The project proposes the integration and participation of the tourist, residential and service sectors emphasizing the importance of jointly adopting initiatives which increase the region’s environmental quality and the government’s and tourism industry’s environmental responsibility through the support and participation of organizations such as SEMARNAT, PROFEPA, SECTUR, FONATUR, Municipal and State Governments, etc.
The “Best Environmental Practices in Golf Courses of the Mexican Caribbean” project will obtain enormous environmental, social and economic benefits by enhancing and certifying the environmental quality of the golf courses in this region, which will have world-wide promotion and attention (USA, Canada, Europe, Asia, and South America) through the collaboration with The Travel Foundation and other multinational organizations interested in promoting the conservation and the responsible use of the natural resources in golf courses.
